Our Mission

The Burnham School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is a non-profit, volunteer-run group composed of parents, guardians, teachers, and staff.

Our mission is to enrich the educational experience for all students by funding enrichment programs, supporting our teachers, and building a strong, vibrant school community through family-friendly events and scholarships.

Everything we do is guided by a simple principle: strong kids, strong community.

Whether you have one hour to volunteer at an event, a specific talent to share, or can contribute financially, your support directly and positively impacts every student and shows our staff how much we appreciate them.

The 2026-27 Board

The Burnham School PTO Board is made up of parents and caregivers who care deeply about creating a connected, supportive, and memorable school experience for our students and families.

Together, we help bring school events, programs, and traditions to life, support teachers and staff, and create opportunities for families to connect with one another and our school community.

Whether you’re looking to volunteer regularly, lend a hand when you can, or simply stay informed—we’re glad you’re here. We’re always excited to welcome new faces, answer questions, and find ways for everyone to get involved.

President

Miranda Hora

The President serves as the official representative of the PTO, acts as the main liaison between the PTO, Region 12, and the broader town community, and helps coordinate the work of officers and committees in support of the PTO’s mission.

Miranda joined the PTO to become more involved in school efforts and help bring enriching, fun experiences to Burnham students and families. She loves that the PTO creates opportunities to build relationships with other parents, engage with the community, and contribute to a positive school environment.

Fun facts: Miranda’s professional background is in nonprofit management, with a focus on strategy and operations. Outside of work and family life, she enjoys reading and spending time in her garden.

Vice President

Toni Scalzo

The Vice President supports the President and helps carry out the work of the PTO. In the President’s absence, the Vice President assumes the duties of the President.

Toni joined the PTO to stay connected to her kids through their school experience, help make sure students’ voices are heard, and support events and activities that make the elementary years fun and memorable.

Fun fact: Toni has worked seasonally at Yankee Stadium since 2009 — and before that, she was a season ticket holder.

Treasurer

Dan Church

The Treasurer manages the PTO’s finances, keeps accurate records of income and expenses, distributes funds as authorized by the organization, provides financial updates at monthly meetings, and oversees required tax filings and PTO accounts.

Dan joined the PTO to become more involved at school and help bring fun programs and events to students. He enjoys staying connected, meeting other parents, and contributing to the school community in a meaningful way.

Fun facts: Dan is a pescatarian, an Eagle Scout, and can touch his tongue to his nose.

Secretary

Brittany Carlson

The Secretary records meeting minutes and helps keep PTO information organized, accessible, and moving forward throughout the year. Responsibilities include maintaining records, supporting communication efforts, and helping ensure members and families stay informed and connected.

Brittany joined the PTO to help make Burnham feel even more connected, creative, and fun. She loves giving back to the community that is shaping her daughter’s childhood and supporting the kind of school experience all families want for their kids.

Fun facts: Brittany is a web designer and communications specialist, but her heart is in home design, gardening, and getting her hands dirty outside.
